NICA  recently attended 2 festivals. The World Environment Day event at Doonan Creek Environment Reserve on 8th June and the Noosa Festival of Water on 13th June. The Friends of Kinaba group recently celebrated 10 years since their formation a local community volunteer group.

Thanks to support from Sandy Bolton MP through the 2021 Community Connect grant program, NICA is pleased to announce its new drone, a Mavic Air-2, is now in flight. The new NICA drone offers outstanding HDR camera capabilities in still and video format.

This month there has been an addition to our NICA Committee and some changes to the members of NICA's Noosa River Catchment Fund.

The Noosa Council Draft River Plan is not yet endorsed and is waiting on further community feedback before finalisation. A key input to this will be the newly developed Noosa River Stakeholder Advisory Committee, in partnership with Maritime Safety Queensland, who will provide feedback on community priorities to inform the final version of the new Noosa River Plan.

At 28 Working Bees, 275 volunteers worked for 681 hours collected 16 tons of rubbish, filled Pink Skips with 6,600 kg weed overburden, mounded, sweated and mulched on site 40 cubic metres of weeds. Erosion control jute mat and coir logs were used as needed on the steep banks and to restrict pollutants entering the spring fed wetland and creek.

If you take a wander along BA 54 & 55 at Peregian Beach you’ll notice the work that’s being undertaken as part of Noosa Council’s 3 Yr Multi Grant ‘Coastal Connect’ which sees a collaboration between 6 Bushcare teams & their contractors to rehabilitate over 3 years
