NICA organised a clean up of the Noosa River as part of Noosa Biosphere Day on 2nd October, 2017, thanks to a grant from Sea World and Healthy Land and Water. Around 30 volunteers from NICA, NCBA and the Surfrider’s Sunshine Coast ventured out and along the Noosa River and collected over 2 tonnes of litter. An audit of the litter collected using Tangaroa Blue guidelines. The data collected will help in assessing the impact of the Plastic Bag Ban and Container Refund Scheme that will be introduced in Queensland from July 1st 2018 and aims to prevent litter at its source.
