Urban Wildlife Gardens is delighted to welcome Shaun Walsh as a member of our Working Group. Shaun brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our group along with his enthusiasm and passion for native gardens.
Shaun learnt gardening from his grandfather who had him weeding his lawn with a dinner fork in Holland Park Brisbane. As a teenager he helped his parents establish an indigenous garden at their Rainbow Beach house, cultivating in him a lifelong interest in native gardens. Shaun’s early work as a town planner Noosa Council in 1991, saw him draft the landscaping policy for new development requiring use of native plants. Following more study in landscape architecture, Shaun’s local design work has included Peregian Beach Square, Cooran Streetscape and Cooroy Lower Mill Site, with his professional roles including Design Manager for an international landscape architect company and Chief Executive Officer of South Bank and Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane. He returned permanently to the Noosa hinterland in 2021.
Shaun is well known for delivering garden design workshops for both Noosa and District Landcare and more recently the Urban Wildlife Garden Scheme and has a keen interest in the creation of backyard gardens that bring joy to nature and humans. He is working on creating a romantic country garden using a palette of local native plants at his current garden at Black Mountain.
