Canna lilies are a popular garden plant, often seen growing in drains along driveways. They usually have red flowers but can be orange. They grow in dense clumps and cause problems when they spread from the garden into the bush.

Habit: Herbaceous plant growing to 2 metres tall but usually shorter in the Noosa shire

Dispersal method: Seed but usually spreads via rhizomes along water courses

Control measures: Cut and paint or hand pull. It is difficult to eradicate as small pieces left behind will regrow.

Native species to use in place of Canna Lilly – Philydrum lanuginosum (Frog Mouth) and Hibiscus diversifolius (Swamp Hibiscus)
