To inform future river management and develop a more sustainable model for our much-loved Noosa River, a NICA team led by Alex, Ben and Richard recently conducted a detailed survey of all vessels downstream of the ferry crossing. Over two days (and a night), the team identified almost 200 target vessels and collected over 4,500 data points.   The field database was then reconciled, with remarkable accuracy, to the latest aerial imagery to test this methodology as a future remote sensing option.  The data set, the most detailed yet collected on the river, will assist all stakeholders including the NRSAC, Noosa Council, Maritime Safety Queensland and the community, to develop a more sustainable plan for our much-loved river.  Big thanks to Sandy Bolton MP for her foresight and support for this critical initiative via the 2022 Seeds for Change program.
