Description

Here is a book to help you get to know the natural vegetation that clothes the shire. Vegetation communities have evolved to reflect the range of natural conditions we enjoy here in sub-tropical Noosa.  From coastal beaches, backed by wallum heathland, to mangroves protecting the estuary; then up the river, through ferny paperbark woodlands and eucalyptus forests, to patches of shady rainforest and bare rocky mountains.

You will find different plant groups in different conditions. Climate, aspect and underlying geology all contribute.

This book covers some of the more common plants, but by no means all. It is an overview of the more obvious ones – those you might recognise in your own garden, notice in local landscaping or see in the bush. Ten broad vegetation communities will guide you.

Learning the plants and where they occur naturally will help when making choices for your own garden. Reflecting the natural environment and encouraging native wildlife will help you and your garden feel right at home.
