A recent NICA report prepared by Peter Hunnam and Alex Western titled ” Wetlands In Noosa River Estuary – Assessment of Urban Land-Use Pressures” as part off the Get Your Wetlands program, was the subject of a feature article in the 15th October edition of Noosa Today.

Available on NICA’s website, the report highlights the intense accumulation of pressures exerted upon the wetlands of the Noosa River and aims to provide a fresh perspective on the management and conservation issues that need to be addressed.  Says Peter ““The report is definitely a wake-up call, but a constructive one. It is clear from the assessment that urban Noosa has been developed without sufficient regard for the underlying ecosystem and its vital functions but there are opportunities to control the damaging effects of the main land-use pressures, and to restore degraded sections”.

A community forum and workshop discussion to progress the report’s findings is planned for the Noosa Parks Association (NPA) Environment Centre in November.
