RIVERWATCH

This program has been on hold for most of this year, but with renewed vigour, we intend to contact all the previous volunteers who donated their time and effort to jump in the NICA boat and patrol the river, collecting flotsam and jetsam and other rubbish on the shoreline. We are also working on obtaining a new boat, which will make it easier to get on and off.

SHOREBIRDS

The monthly monitoring of the shorebirds/waders near the mouth of the river continues, and openings may be available to those who wish to learn. Practise and persistence is needed.

WATERWATCH

Monique Western continues to coordinate our volunteers for this program, sponsored by Noosa Council. The teams go out once a month to monitor numerous sites (ranging from Kin Kin Creek to Castaways),plus 5 separate sites in the Noosa River for nutrient testing.

BUSHCARE

NICA continues to work closely with a few Bushcare Groups, who remove invasive weeds and give our native plants a chance to recover. On a fairly regular basis, our volunteers help weed Sand and Sheep Islands in the River, so please get in touch with the NICA office if you wish to help.

OYSTERS

The involvement of NICA in the highly successful Oyster Gardening program is now winding down, so a big thank you to all involved over the last few years.

URBAN WILDLFE GARDENS

This program is going from strength to strength. If you still haven’t signed up, for a small contribution you can get some expert help about how to help the native flora and fauna in your garden.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

The 2025 Clean Up Australia Day will be coordinated by Tony Clarke.  Joe Jurisivec has hung up his gloves after 17 years. Big effort Joe, Thanks.
