Don't forget to LIKE our UWG Facebook page. You will receive a regular steam of current posts of interest to Noosa's urban wildlife gardeners. These are almost always LOCAL but occasionally I share ones of general interest.
Weed of the Month for May is Indian Hawthorn Raphiolepis indica. Indian hawthorn is an attractive shrub that is seen in gardens and finding its way into the bush.
As nations dither, everyday people in our community are taking action to heal the planet. Captured in black and white by photographer, Yanni van Zijl, this photo is the first in a series of 8 NICA volunteers included in the exhibition.
We are pleased to announce that our next UWG workshop will be presented by John Olds, Principal Conservation Officer of the Ecological Assessment Unit of Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships, Department of Environment and Science.
March and April have again experienced heavy rainfalls which have resulted in all parameters varying considerably, although consistent trends have followed throughout the river system. Salinity and pH of the waters always decrease following rain after a drier period (February 101 mm, March 353 mm, April 314 mm), but steadily increase again as fresh water flows out.
In collaboration with SCEC and the World Environment Day Festival 2021, NICA is pleased to announce it will be hosting a small group tour on Tuesday, June 1 to showcase our "Sand Island Stopover" initiative, restoring Noosa's critical migratory shorebird habitat in the lower Noosa River.
NICA is excited to have a new tool to be used for multiple tasks to support our projects; it will assist with identifying point source water quality issues and the extent of algae density and distribution within the river system as well as monitoring the progress of bushland regeneration projects.
With the reopening of Fairhill Native Botanic gardens and Noosa District Landcare’s new Hinter Hub it’s time to update the 'Where to Buy Native Plants Page'.
