“I Want Some Colour”
A term I often hear is “ I want some color so I need to plant exotics” Hopefully, the following photos of local native flowers will change that idea. Thanks to Stephanie Haslam for the photos.

Here is a summary of our Waterwatch activities for May and June. It's good to see the river water starting to get a bit clearer following less rain, though it would be nice to lose some of the fine silt that is everywhere.
Pelican 1 (NICA boat) was back on the water today following recent engine repairs. Ran well for its age, spritely and swift. New front seat arrangement, sturdy and comfortable. Little water in bilge despite extended lay-up.
This is the 11th year we have been travelling to the island, but we think the end is in sight.
Big thanks to Melanie and Jarrah for their work as NICA's Resource Recovery Auditors diligently auditing our Riverwatch collections and logging that information into the AMDI database.
Our next workshop to be held on Saturday, 17 July will be hosted by Michelle Gleeson, author of Miniature Lives. This workshop will discuss the morphology, behaviour and lifecycles of the different groups of insects commonly encountered in our homes and gardens.
This month we look at a local native plant that produces a very tasty fruit.
Weed of the month June 2021 Black-eyed Susan Thunbergia alata Black-eyed Susan is a perennial ( long-living ) vine. With attractive foliage and flowers it’s easy to see why it has been popular as a garden plant.
NICA recently attended 2 festivals. The World Environment Day event at Doonan Creek Environment Reserve on 8th June and the Noosa Festival of Water on 13th June. The Friends of Kinaba group recently celebrated 10 years since their formation a local community volunteer group.
Thanks to support from Sandy Bolton MP through the 2021 Community Connect grant program, NICA is pleased to announce its new drone, a Mavic Air-2, is now in flight. The new NICA drone offers outstanding HDR camera capabilities in still and video format.
