NICA is pleased to release a report on our long-running survey of the Noosa River’s threatened shorebird species. Conducted over 14 years from 2005 (and still going strong), the survey documents the rich but threatened biodiversity & declining abundance of our shorebirds. In total, 59 water bird and raptor species were observed including 27 shorebird species or almost half of those known to transit the EAAF from the north. Sadly, numbers are declining as elsewhere, down up to 45% for migratory species including amongst the 8 species currently listed as threatened.
Sincere thanks to Noosa Council for their long term support for the program and this report. Report will be on our website shortly. Join us to conserve the estuary for these threatened species.
