10th November 2019 – NICA is pleased to announce its new water testing instrument recently purchased with a grant from the Queensland Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF). While NICA has carried out water quality tests in the Noosa River for almost 15 years, we can now extend this work to more detailed studies of the whole river system including its tributary creeks where most pollution reaching the river originates, such as river bank erosion, agricultural chemicals, etc.
We routinely measure such parameters as acidity, salinity, turbidity, and oxygen dissolved in the water, all of which help to define the ongoing quality of the water and assist in developing management programs to maintain and improve the quality of the river. The new instrument will enable more sophisticated on-line recording and consequent analysis of the measurements obtained.
