Massive thanks to the 118 volunteers (including the 16 sites supervisors) that gloved up on Sunday 2 March to help with Clean Up Australia Day (CUAD) across the Noosa Shire region.

Despite the the looming threat of Tropical Cyclone Alfred which delivered windy and showery weather, our fearless volunteers collectively filled an estimated 50 bags of rubbish. Additionally, heavy and bulky items such as mattresses, wooden pallets, kayaks, bicycles and car tyres were found and hauled out.

Some site supervisors went the extra mile and fossicked through their rubbish to report on the types of rubbish collected. These reports have been forwarded through to CUAD’s national office for national collation.

Special thanks to NICA’s Peter Hunnam (photo) who once again undertook a detailed analysis of rubbish collected from the two Noosa River sites at Thomas and Doonella streets. Peter’s “Noosa River Rubbish Audit 2025” can be found on the NICA website.

Finally, NICA thanks  Noosa Shire Council who once again provided funding to NICA to help with the coordinated region-wide clean up. Council also provided  support and advice through their environmental staff, and  through the Snap-Send-Solve app for the collection of those heavy and bulky items.
