Congratulations to the NICA Waterwatch team led by Bruce McConkey for taking home the Water Category of the Noosa Biosphere Awards. Bruce and his team of 12 volunteers conduct water monitoring at over 30 sites stretching from Kin Kin Creek to Murdering Creek, many accessed only by foot. Over the last 15+ years rain, hail or shine, the team have conducted almost 50,000 observations, all to help Noosa better understand our water quality. A massive effort and overdue recognition for their work.
Project Coordinator Bruce McConkey is delighted that their steady effort over many years have been recognised in this way, as it establishes the significance of the team’s contribution to environmental management here in Noosa. He says its good to know that all of the water test results are being watched and utilised for any issues of river quality and management.
