On Wednesday 13th July UWG held an information evening at Doonella House at Tewantin. Guest speaker was Matt Hanson, Noosa Council’s Park and Gardens coordinator.

Matt explained the structure of the Parks and Gardens division and his role. He talked about the budget, $450K per year, and while it sounded like a lot just the mowing contract alone takes $100k of that.

The photos and information about the Noosa Botanical Gardens were very interesting. The attraction has a colourful history.

Matt talked a lot about the species selection for works in the Shire. He told us about the successes and the failures and how important it is for the plants to be hardy.

The role of Parks and Gardens coordinator is a challenging one and Matt and his team are doing a great job.

Thank you to Matt for an interesting talk and to Tony and Stephanie for the wine and cheese.

We are always looking for ideas for the workshops, so please pass on any suggestions to Michelle on phone 0412 074 103.
