Back in the 70’s when native plants were still regarded with suspicion, I brought a bus trip up to Fairhill Nursery from my garden club at The Gap in Brisbane . Fairhill was the beginning of a more intelligent interest in where the plants came from and how they might be adapted to suburban home gardens. Gardeners were encouraged to provide conditions that echoed the origin of the plant.

Landcare and similar nurseries have been an ongoing source of research and development into local species for local properties. There is now a push to reclaim local gardens as wildlife corridors through the Noosa biosphere reserve, supported by Council’s public landscaping. After many years of exotic gardening, we are now trying to get back into some sort of harmony with our surroundings.

So a big “Thank You” to all the nurseries that have contributed over the years.
