- Common names: Easter cassia
- Scientific name: Senna pendula var. glabrata
- Native to: South America
- Family: Caesalpiniaceae
- Habit: Multi stemmed shrub
- Leaves: Compound with 3 to 6 pairs of leaflets opposite each other.
- Flowers: Bright yellow in clusters at the end of the branch.
- Dispersal method: Seeds are in pods that open when mature. Birds spread the seeds or they fall and germinate below the parent plant.
- Control measures: Hand pulling is possible with smaller plants but bigger ones will need cutting and painting with Glyphosate. Be sure to treat all stems. Now is the perfect time to kill it. The flowers make it easy to find and the seeds haven’t yet matured.
Easter cassia is a very common weed in the Noosa shire. It likes wet areas but is very hardy and can grow anywhere. It easily out competes native vegetation and can cover large areas.
