This is an update on the work that this group has been doing. As many will know, we have been weeding and restoring the native vegetation for many years in the Girraween Nature Refuge, which borders the Noosa National Park. We originally started behind Ozcare, and have gradually worked north along Cooyar St., then along Sunshine Beach Road, then down Bicentennial Drive. We are currently working on the edge of the Rugby fields. We eventually will go right around the edge of this section of the park, and end up where we started 9 years ago. Then it will be continual maintenance (like painting the Sydney harbour Bridge)
We currently have a 12 month grant, which is part of the Bushfire Recovery for Wildlife and Habitat Community Grants program. The aim is to recover and build resilience for flora and fauna.
Our volunteers have clocked up 280 hours in the last 6 months, removed 5 large pink skips of weeds, and our contractors have worked another 150 hours. We have also had valuable assistance from Council.
The attached photos were taken at our last working bee. Council had some machinery spreading some mulch, and also a small excavator removing some invasive mud plantain from the retention basin. Klaus Horner has also donated his time to help us with some drone photography.
