As part of NICA’s new “Get Your Wetlands” program, a dedicated group of residents and volunteers from Noosa’s North Shore, Ozfish Unlimited (Noosa) and NICA trekked to the North Shore on October 5 to identify and remove accumulated rubbish along a 3.85km stretch from Beach Road to the beachfront at first cutting and south to the river mouth. The group removed a total of 1,532 items with a net (clean) weight of 158 kilograms excluding several outsized items later removed. The group also removed several hundred specimens of the invasive weed, Cakile maritama (Sea Rocket) that poses a threat to our estuary. Great effort all around and we look forward to extending this initiative into the Noosa River estuary itself shortly under NICA’s Get Your Wetlands program.
