Earlier in the year, the NICA Girraween bushcare group planted a number of lomandras along Sunshine Beach Rd, mainly to define the edge of the mowing strip, but also to prevent weed seeds being thrown into the native vegetation by the mowers. Unfortunately 20 or 30 were removed a few weeks ago, and the bamboo marker stakes were either broken off or pulled out.
On Tuesday 17th, a group of NICA volunteers planted 78 Lomandra hystrix, so hopefully these will be safe. It is frustrating when we have to spend our grant money in this way, rather than moving on to new areas.
