NICA recently attended two festivals. The first was run by Sunshine Coast Environment Council (SCEC) at the Doonan Creek Environmental Reserve on 8th June. The photos show the result of a good turnout of volunteers, they planted of over 1,000 trees and the NICA marquee displaying brochures and books.
We also attended the Festival of Water at the Noosa Botanical Gardens at Lake Macdonald on 13th June. This was organised by MRCC and very well attended by a variety of local natural resource management groups. We disseminated lots of information to interested festival goers, sold quite a few books and also some bags kindly made by Stephanie Haslam. Noosa Today was also there, and Tony Haslam enlightened them about NICA’s Urban Wildlife Garden program.
Friends of Kinaba have been going for 10 years now and celebrated the milestone with morning tea at the information centre. NICA has been pleased to provide FoK with some logistical support to obtain funding, and support their objectives. NICA Vice President Jan Green and Secretary Tony Haslam were in attendance to share the celebrations. Friends of Kinaba are interested in the protection of the unique values of Cooloola and the Great Sandy National Park, and promoting those values to visitors, and ensuring the Kinaba Information Centre is retained for the benefit of the public.
