Pop down to the Noosa library where Pam Walpole and Yanni Van Zijl have created an Art Installation specifically about the migratory sea birds that nest and rest in the Noosa estuary.
We aim to create awareness to encourage people to stop dogs chasing the Shorebirds which need to be feeding and resting to enable them to make the extraordinary return 10,000km flight back to Siberia. Education can assist in explaining why this is such a important and valuable site for varieties of both migratory and resident Shorebirds.
Upon closer inspection each bird is embellished with a map of the coastline, or land, over which they fly on their migration south to out sandy shores to rest and feed. Our local oyster catchers are not forgotten and Yanni has made a flock of sculptures which are distinctive with their bright beaks and legs. Created to educate children and adults alike, we hope this display serves to inform the public the importance of not disturbing these birds during their time of recovery.
There is also a display of NICA’S botanical books from the latest ‘ Flowering now’ by Stephanie Haslam, to Grasses, Native orchids etc.
Display in on until February 2.
