NICA Looking Ahead to 2018 and Beyond!

The end of 2017 has seen the retirement of our long-serving President, Tony Haslam, and of Stephanie Haslam, from the NICA Management Committee. Both have been tireless main-stays and drivers of the NICA vessel for the past 15 years, leading numerous initiatives as well as keeping the craft afloat and maintaining NICA’s reputation as a valued partner in conserving the Noosa River catchment, through education, science and engagement in practical conservation activities.

On behalf of all NICA Members, partners and the Management Committee, I thank Tony and Stephanie wholeheartedly for their dedication, integrity and creativity over the years, towards NICA’s central aim of integrated management of the Noosa river and catchment, for people’s enjoyment, appreciation, and understanding of Nature; and for their practical engagement in efforts to conserve, protect and enhance Noosa’s biodiversity, natural habitats and the environment.

At the AGM last month, a new Committee was appointed to lead and support NICA’s development and activities over the coming year. New Committee members Peter Hunnam and Kay Southam joined re-elected members, Barry Sinclair, Roger Kelly, Joan Heavey, and Bruce Hallett.

We propose to hold a workshop in the New Year for all Members to put forward ideas, and help plan NICA’s Programs and activities in 2018 and beyond. The workshop will review what NICA does well, and how best it could be strengthened.  Please be prepared to recruit new Members, to bring or send specific ideas to the planning meeting, and help to develop the NICA that you want and that Noosa needs. Details of dates, venue and agenda will be circulated soon.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped out with the recent fundraising campaign at Noosa Civic, it was a great success due to your efforts.

With very best wishes from the NICA Management Committee and myself, for a happy and healthy festive season and a wonderful New Year.  NICA’s office will be closed from 20th December until 15th January.

Peter Hunnam
