Noosa River Volunteer Ranger
The Volunteer River Rangers venture out onto the river weekly to carry out water testing, clean ups or assist in erosion, seagrass or mangrove monitoring. They also educate the public about the values of healthy rivers, the role of NICA and current river regulations.
If you care about the Noosa River and love going out on the river (say once a month), join our rangers’ team. We are especially in need of people with a boat license and experience in outboard motor boat operations, but it is not a requirement. For further information on the project go to project page.
We receive a grant from Noosa Council which enables us to pay for the costs of running this project.
Bushland Groups
NICA as an incorporated association is able to auspice bushland groups to enable them to obtain funding to carry out on ground restoration projects. Over many years we have supported many groups in this capacity, our role being that of support and financial management of the projects. Some of the bushland groups we have worked with are at Sunshine Beach, Heritage Park, Weyba Creek and North Peregian.
More recently NICA has formed its own bushland group at Girraween and is currently working with the assistance of a Qld Govt Community Sustainability Action Grant to rehabilitate an area of land on Cooyar Street at Noosa Heads. NICA is currently auspicing NBBCC (Noosa Bush Beach and Creek Care) at Sunshine Beach in their project which has been funded by Qld Govt to rehabilitate 2 severely degraded areas. The project areas are 1.32 ha of Wallum Wetland with 2 fresh water springs.
New volunteers are always welcome, the working bees are generally held in the morning and finish with a morning tea, a great way to meet with llike minded volunteers. Contact NICA for more details.
